About me

I’m a journalist, former news executive and change-maker who’s led innovation aimed at strengthening journalism’s public service and connection. I recently moved from consulting to volunteer support, mentorship and advising for the North Carolina Local News Workshop and other people and organizations focused on journalism as a public service to people in our state. In prior roles I was the top editor and senior vice resident for news at the Sacramento Bee, News & Observer of Raleigh and KPCC/ Southern California Public Radio (now LAist) in Los Angeles. As Journalism Executive in Residence at the USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism in 2011, I developed a discussion paper on improving journalism as a service (civic and business) in the digital age.
